If you are conscious about your dental care at home, you may wonder if there is a method of whitening your teeth at home. There are a few methods you can try, including using baking soda on teeth.

Is Baking Soda Good for Your Teeth?

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a chemical substance with a variety of uses in the home. Its leavening characteristics help the dough to rise, therefore, it can be found in cakes and bread. It may also be used to polish silverware and remove difficult stains. In today’s toothpaste, sodium bicarbonate is also a common ingredient.

It is a moderate abrasive that can be used to remove stains and yellowing from the surface. It is softer than other abrasive materials used for teeth whitening. With inappropriate use, it can still wear away your enamel and cause harm to your teeth and gums. Even while it is not as abrasive as other whitening agents, using baking soda on teeth daily will begin to dissolve dental enamel, which protects and strengthens your teeth.

This is effective at reducing plaque acidity and breaking up plaque development. Using baking soda is not enough to kill bacteria, clear plaque, and prevent cavities on its own. While sodium bicarbonate can help break up plaque, it will not be able to prevent plaque build-up and tooth damage in the long run.

How to Whiten Teeth with Baking Soda?

Here are four methods that you should use:

Baking Soda & Toothpaste

This is by far the simplest method. Simply add a pinch of baking soda to your toothpaste and brush your teeth as usual.

Baking Soda & Water

Using a mixture of baking soda and water to whiten your teeth is one of the typical methods. To form a paste, combine a few drops of water with half a teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate in a cup or small bowl.

Apply the paste to your teeth with your finger or toothbrush, and keep it there for 2 to 3 minutes. Rinse well with water now.

Lemon & Baking Soda

Citric acid, found in lemons, is a natural bleaching agent. To whiten teeth with baking soda, combine half a teaspoon of it with half a teaspoon of lemon juice and make a paste. Brushing with this lemon-soda mixture is a great way to improve your oral health.

Baking Soda & Hydrogen Peroxide

To whiten your teeth, brush them with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda paste. To make a combination, combine half a teaspoon or more baking soda with half a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide until a sticky semi-liquid solution forms. Brush with this toothpaste-like concoction and let it sit for 1 to 2 minutes. Rinse your mouth with water or mouthwash at this point. Be cautious about using hydrogen peroxide.
